RESEARCH SUMMARY

This study describes the early process of designing a novel, waterless toilet to respond to the water scarcity problem in the world. I researched on history of water-base toilets, traditional toilet 1.6 gallons of water is used per flush so One year’s worth of drinking water for 1.1 million people is flushed daily.

Then some user groups were identified which presents how I designed and developed a toilet focusing on three factors a sanitization function, an ergonomic posture, and clean aesthetics by conducting focus group interviews as part of a user engagement approach to understand what community users want from a toilet and ways of improving their toilet experiences.

What ?

Through bio-inspiration of the Dung Beetle, the Bousier introduces an innovative toilet technology that boasts zero water use without compromising comfort for its users. It is essentially a waterless toilet that can be installed in-home or independentlv in other areas without relying on a water and sewage system.

HOW ?

3-step action once the flush button is activated.

  1.  Wrap-to-seal: a mechanism that locks the waste in a biodegradable film package.
  2.  Vacuum pump: with air pressure, the package is flushed to a lower waste drawer or out through the In-home plug.
  3. Reload: the biodegradable package is reloaded through the motor and film roll.

FINAL PRODUCT

Results:

One year’s worth of drinking water is saved from one day of not flushing in the US.
